About the Methodist Church

History
John Wesley was the founder and guiding force of Methodism. He and his brother formed a religious society at Oxford University dedicated to methodical religious life. Other students called them "Bible Moths" and "Methodists," a name that stayed with them all the way to the American colonies. In 1784 the colonial Methodists formed the Methodists Episcopal Church. In 1968 the United Bretherin Church united with several Methodists divisions to become the United Methodist Church.

What We Believe
While we trust free inquiry in Christian doctrine, Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience guide our faith. The Bible is of paramount importance as it is the record of God's people living out His promises. We are mission-oriented and socially conscious. In short, we are a happening people; always Involved, Committed, Diverse, and Open. We have a history of initiating ministries related to education, employment, and health issues. We are a people who like to tell the story of God's redeeming grace.
