I am coming soon. I am coming to baptize your
children, marry your sons and daughters, and bury your faithful. I am coming to tell you that you are loved and forgiven on a regular basis. What else on earth am I ordained for? I am coming to preserve a worthy tradition that is more important now than ever before. We celebrate this month our independence from England 231 years ago, but history reminds us we still brought and borrowed much from our Mother Country. William Wilberforce was a Christian member of Parliament when slavery was an issue for the British empire. During a crucial time he said these words: "The hope for our country depends not so much on her navies and armies, nor on the wisdom of her rulers, as on the persuasion that she still contains many who love and obey the gospel of Christ, that their prayers may yet prevail. " Patriotism and the church are intrinsically connected. They are a necessity to keep what history has presented to us. The church needs to be patriotic in its duty more than ever before. May it be so. Your Friend on the Path, Pastor Pete
